Apologetics Press :: In the News

International Conference on Creationism
by Bert Thompson, Ph.D.

One of the annual requirements for staff members working at Apologetics Press is that they spend several days each year continuing their education. For staff with biblical degrees, this generally entails attending weeklong lectureships. For those of us with degrees in science, we try to attend either a conference in our related fields or a conference on creationism. For 2004, the International Conference on Creationism (see http://www.icc03.org) is being held August 4-9 at Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. This particular conference is held once every four years, and is the world’s premier gathering of creationist researchers. If you are able to attend, I believe you will find the conference both informative and edifying.

The theme of the conference this year is “the development and systematization of the creation model of origins.” A wide range of technical research will be presented, demonstrating a solid alternative to the evolution model. The International Conference on Creationism is hosted by the Creation Science Fellowship of Pittsburgh. These conferences are excellent learning opportunities, and always feature some of the top creationists in the field. Since this particular conference consistently offers a treasure trove of information, Dr. Brad Harrub, our Director of Scientific Information, already had cleared his speaking schedule in order to be able to attend. Imagine our delight when both he and I were asked to speak at this year’s conference! Unfortunately my speaking schedule stays booked 2-3 years in advance, and as a result, I was not available that particular week. However, Dr. Harrub will be presenting seminars on Thursday and Friday. For a full list of speakers and times, please consult the ICC Web site.

As the work here at Apologetics Press grows, so does our influence in the creationist community. Within the past week, we have submitted yet another paper (the seventh this year!) to a peer-reviewed scientific journal. We also received word that a previously submitted manuscript has been accepted, and is slated to be published later this year. In addition, a prominent creationist wrote us a kind letter, noting that we had the best graphics and images within the entire creationist community—a compliment that came after the announcement that we had just hired a professional scientific illustrator to enhance all of our publications. Naturally, we greatly appreciate such accolades, since one of the goals we set forth from the very outset of the work was to produce scholarly, high-quality material. As such, we will continue to humbly set about doing the work that we set out to do almost 25 years ago. Stay with us. More exciting news is yet to come.

[NOTE: Many of the speakers at the International Conference on Creationism hold views on creationism that are very similar, or identical, to our own—which is why we recommend the Conference. However, our recommendation is not to be taken as a blanket endorsement of, or agreement with, every position and/or viewpoint that may be advocated by a particular speaker. For a statement of our beliefs, see the section of our Web site titled "What We Believe."]
